Anni Cai

The daughter of an engineer and a teacher, I loved tinkering with gadgets and pursued knowledge with ferocious zeal. I’d thought about a research career, and in fact, spent a happy high school summer at MIT studying cell signaling in yeast.

But my interests were eclectic (taking full advantage of Harvard’s liberal arts curriculum, I’d devoured everything from continental philosophy to 1800s French literature alongside my Statistics degree), and I was always restless to meet different people and explore new ideas. Investing, it turned out, was the perfect fit.

I was fortunate to start my career at Blackstone’s Tactical Opportunities group which exposed me to a gamut of asset classes and trained me in rigorous financial analysis. My abiding fascination with tech later brought me to General Catalyst, my first exposure to venture capital, or what I like to call the art of calibrated dreaming. When I decided to return home to Southeast Asia after eight years abroad, I was captivated by Peak XV’s boldness of vision and long term orientation, and excited to continue the tradition of helping founders build enduring companies in one of the most dynamic regions in the world.
